FAQS

DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?

We do not work directly with insurance providers, but we can provide a superbill that you may submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement.  Assessments for learning disorders alone are not usually covered by insurance, but evaluations related to medical conditions (e.g., ADHD, Autism, Anxiety/Depression) and their impact on academic functioning are more likely to be partially covered when used for medical treatment planning.

-Talk to your provider. A prescription from your pediatrician for an assessment for medical purposes can support reimbursement.

-Check with your insurance plan to understand what is covered, and the percentage of reimbursement.

HOW DO I TALK TO MY CHILD ABOUT THE ASSESSMENT?

Most children find the in-person testing to be fun and engaging! What you tell your child depends on their age and level of understanding. In general, we suggest telling kids that we are learning about how their brain works. The testing will involve sitting at a desk, like at school, and completing tasks on an iPad and with paper and pencil. They are not expected to get every question right - they simply need to try their best! For anxious children, reassure them that there are no "shots," scary machines, or invasive procedures. If your child is aware of their difficulties, you can reassure them that this testing will help us determine how they learn best, and help make school and home life as happy and successful as possible.

WHAT DO WE BRING TO TESTING?

You should bring any necessary medical devices (e.g., prescription glasses or hearing aides) and medications typically taken during the scheduled testing hours (to be administered by parents).

Other optional items:

  • A light jacket

  • A comfort item that they can keep close by (e.g., a favorite stuffy)

  • A preferred snack and water bottle

DO YOU ACCEPT FUNDS FROM THE FAMILY EMPOWERMENT SCHOLARSHIP?

Dr. Greenfield is a verified vendor of the Family Empowerment Scholarship. However, FES only allows for funds to be used towards therapy and consultation services. They do not currently allow funds to be used towards psychoeducational or neuropsychological assessment.

DOES MY CHILD GET BREAKS DURING THE ASSESSMENT?

Breaks are provided as necessary, based on your individual child's age and needs. If your assessment if scheduled through the afternoon, they will have a longer break (with parents) for lunch.

DO I STAY IN THE ROOM WITH MY CHILD DURING TESTING?

In most cases, parents of children 5 and older do not join their child in the testing room. The assessment is a one-on-one session with your child and Dr. Greenfield. Parents are welcome to stay nearby, in our waiting room.
