THE ASSESSMENT PROCESS

Dr. Greenfield's assessment process is designed to understand your child as a whole. The goal is to get to know your child, evaluate your concerns, teach you about your child's unique mind, and create an evidence-based roadmap for success that will maximize their strengths.

  • Parent Interview
A meeting between Dr. Greenfield and parents/guardians to discuss current concerns, review the child's developmental/medical/social-emotional history, and determine the goals of the assessment.

  • Review of Documentation

Dr. Greenfield will review your child's prior assessments, medical records, and school records.

  • Phone Consultations with Your Child's Team
Dr. Greenfield will schedule phone calls with other professionals working with your child, such as doctors, teachers, and tutors, in order to get a comprehensive understanding of your child's presentation across settings.

  • In-Person Testing with Your Child
Your child will meet with Dr. Greenfield for testing. The length of testing can vary, depending on the type of assessment, your child's age, or any special needs they may have. Typically, in-person testing takes 3 to 10 hours, over the course of 1 or more days.

Testing is conducted exclusively by Dr. Greenfield, who will select the best measures to address your concerns and your child's needs.

  • Scoring and Interpretation of the Test Data
Dr. Greenfield will score and review the test data. She will form her clinical impressions using a combination of the test data, your child's history, and her clinical observations of your child.

  • Feedback
Dr. Greenfield will meet with parents/guardians for 1.5 hours to review the results of the assessment. This includes a detailed review of the notable patterns in your child's cognitive/academic profile and their unique strengths and weaknesses. From there, she will provide you with the primary steps to address any areas of need, and answer any questions you may have.

Dr. Greenfield can also have a feedback meeting with your child. This (shorter) meeting focuses on explaining their strengths, introducing new treatments, and providing learning strategies that can support their success. We find that this meeting can help  empower your child by highlighing their strengths, getting them excited for the changes ahead, and reminding them that they have a team to support and cheer them on!

  • Coordinating Care
Dr. Greenfield will be available to discuss the results of the assessment with your current team, and also connect you with additional professionals and resources necessary to jumpstart your child's treatment plan. Whether that be the right school, the right therapist, or the right tutor, Dr. Greenfield has built a network of trusted professionals that can provide the right fit for your child, and your family.

  • Assessment Report
Following the feedback, Dr. Greenfield will write a comprehensive report detailing your child's history, the testing results, and the interpretation of the results. Diagnoses will be provided if appropriate. Detailed recommendations for treatment, academic support, and home-based strategies are uniquely tailored to your child.

This report can be sent to your child's team (e.g., school, pediatrician, therapist, tutor, etc.) upon request. Dr. Greenfield can also create a brief version of the report for educators, focused on academic strategies and accommodations and limiting personal/sensitive information.

ADDITIONS TO THE PROCESS

  • School Observation Sometimes clinical teacher questionnaires are not enough to fully understand a child's presentation in the classroom. In cases where there are significant behavioral or social concerns, Dr. Greenfield observe your child in the classroom to get a better understanding of their functioning at school. If a classroom observation is desired, it should be scheduled before formal testing. If you are wondering if a school observation would be helpful, you should discuss this during the initial interview.

  • IEP/School Feedback
Assessments provide you with a lot of information, and some parents prefer to have Dr. Greenfield disseminate the information to educators directly. This also allows Dr. Greenfield to be available for any questions teachers and support staff may have about how to best educate their child. Dr. Greenfield can be available to attend IEP meetings or a less formal School Feedback with educators to review the findings of the assessment, answer any questions, and discuss the importance of implementing the outlined recommendations (in an IEP, 504 Plan, Formal Education Plan, or otherwise).

All IEE evaluations include IEP attendance.
